The project has been submitted for LEED certification, the national benchmark for sustainable building and development practices and has recieved the SILVERn Certification - The only sports building in New England to have this honor. By recycling materials from an existing structure for fill, much of the construction waste was diverted from landfills.
High R-Value insulation has been used for the exterior walls & roof. Low-VOC emitting materials, including paints, carpets and adhesives were used in construction. Automatic sinks, low flush toilets and waterless urinals reduce water consumption. Most of the furniture has been manufactured from recycling materials. The NYA building is the first step toward a revitalization of the Fairfield Hills Campus and has great Town and Community support.
This areal shot was taken during construction June 2008. Field House Wing on the right next to the Ball field and the Turf Wing on the left. The x shaped building in front of NYA is now gone and is where our facility parking is located. The building on the top center of the picture is the newly renovated Town Hall. |
